These videos are presented as part of the Alaskan-Legacies.com historical preservation effort. Due to the large amount of video files waiting to be added, it seemed best to start with a batch a three.
The following three videos are pretty rare in their own ways, and deserving of preservation. Simply click on the link to view, or right-click to download first. If your browser is set to save .mpg files then the download will begin automatically. File sizes are listed next to the secure link.
First is a special gathering in Fairbanks to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the founding of the Alaska Goldpanners Board of Directors. This event was held in the Tiki Cove restaurant at the top of the Polaris Hotel as part of the Midnight Sun Game solstice celebrations in 1993. Present at the event were Don Dennis, Bill Stroecker, Red Boucher, Charlie Cole, Wally Burnett, Carl Noble, and a host of other dignitaries.
This is a large file at 2.4 gigabytes, so if you choose the secure download it will take some extra time.
Next is a clip of Anchorage Bucs General Manager Dennis Mattingly working on the field during the 2000 season. Dennis is a member of the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame, and it is just special to see him at work again.
Last is a video of Zak Basch pitching in 2001. Though always unique in his delivery, this at-bat provides a little extra insight into Zak’s style. After a championship with the Goldpanners and an MVP award the following season, Zak became the 13th pick of the Boston Red Sox in the 2003 MLB June Amateur Draft. Following a pitching career in professional baseball, he became the Oakland Athletics’ Director of Minor League Operations. The rarity of this clip is based on the final pitch. Play-by-play is provided by Gero von Dehn.
