Audio broadcast of the 1976 NBC National Championship game (first half). Future MLB major leaguers Greg Harris (Alaska) and Dan Boone (Anchorage) faced off for the summer collegiate baseball title.
The Goldpanners were the visiting team: “Don Dennis has won nine in a row, but lost the (coin flip) tonight.”
Fairbanks, Alaska, appearing in the National Baseball Congress championship game for the sixth year in a row, captured its fourth title in five years with a 2-0 victory over arch-rival Anchorage, Alaska. Fairbanks right-hander Greg Harris was outstanding, finishing with a two-hitter. He was named the tourney’s Most Valuable Player after winning four games against no defeats. Harris struck out four in the championship game. The win was only Fairbanks’ sixth of the year verses Anchorage against 15 defeats. Fairbanks second baseman Jim Armstrong and first baseman Chick Valley drove in 10th inning runs for the Goldpanners. Dennis Sherow and Chris Bando managed the only hits for Anchorage, both singles.
Broadcasting legend Dick Lobdell provides the main play-by-play.
